The Metropolitan Winds is a civic (volunteer, but EXCELLENT) wind ensemble that has been in existence since 1993. We play everything from challenging classical transcriptions to original works for wind ensemble. We also present a wide variety of musical genres, including some pops.

Met Winds plays approximately 6 to 7 concerts a year, and our main performance venues are Little Elm High School, Christ United Methodist Church in Plano and occasionally Moody Performance Hall in downtown Dallas.  We rehearse at Little Elm High School on Thursday nights with occasional Friday night rehearsals. Our members include band directors, students, retirees, business people, and music teachers.

If you are looking for a place to play, to meet nice people, and to keep your skills honed as a wind, brass, or percussion player, please contact us; we can answer any questions you may have and also help arrange for an audition.

The Metropolitan Winds seeks to find and retain the finest wind players/percussionists in the DFW area. We hold a two step audition process, outlined below.

STEP 1:

Contact us asking to join a rehearsal. This will allow you the opportunity to play with the band and see if we are a fit and are a group you would like to be a part of. You will be invited to attend two consecutive rehearsals by our membership chairperson. The section leader of your instrument will provide music via email in PDF format prior to your first invited rehearsal.

STEP 2:

Immediately after the second rehearsal, you will audition with the section leader and music director. You are asked to come prepared with your own audition material. We ask for two separate excerpts of approximately one minute in length each that demonstrate your musical sensitivity, technical ability, and overall musicianship.

During the audition a short interview will be conducted to obtain your performance background and availability.
